Only one vehicle currently wears the Buick “GS” badge as part of its nomenclature. That one vehicle is the Buick Regal GS, a deluxe edition model of Buick’s popular sedan. Soon, however, according to Ed Welburn, the vice president for global design for GM, more and more Buick models will offer the GS badge as an option.
GS stands for “Gran Sport.” The label lays official claim to a level of performance and sportiness that Buick has been delivering for quite a long time—it’s a way of bringing Buick’s underrated capability out of a shadows a bit. For the Regal, the GS badge sees updates in wheels and tires and also an improved suspension system—there’s nothing sportier than smooth, crisp handling, after all.
While Welburn was tight-lipped about which Buick will next be bestowed with GS options, guesses are in abundance online already. The Verano is being touted as a favorite, with the new LaCrosse another candidate. Here at Freehold Buick GMC, our guess is just as good as yours. Drop by today to tell us which Buick you’d like to see all GS-ed up. We’ll test you for a test drive of the Regal GS while you’re here.
