The Garden State is located smack dab in the middle of the country’s busiest region. As such, there are plenty of great spots for a quick one-day getaway. This summer, explore the best that Jersey has to offer with these four New Jersey day trips.
Six Flags Great Adventure
Located in Jackson, New Jersey, Six Flags Great Adventure is a theme park unlike any other. Not only will you find high-octane thrill rides like Superman: Ultimate Flight and Kingda Ka; you can also take a wild journey at the park’s adjacent safari, where you’ll find rhinos, lions, and giraffes.
Lakota Wolf Preserve
Speaking of wild adventures, the Lakota Wolf Preserve is another howling good outing for the family. Located in Columbia, New Jersey, this preserve offers extensive tours where guests will get to learn more about the majestic wolves that call the preserve home.
Camden, New Jersey, is home to one of the nation’s largest and most highly-rated aquariums: Adventure Aquarium. There are plenty of aquatic animals that you’ll encounter at this aquarium, including sharks, penguins, and hippos, located in the recently-renovated Hippo Haven.
The Statue of Liberty
Okay, technically the Statue of Liberty is in New York City, but it’s surrounded by Jersey City. You’ll be able to reach this monument via a ferry from Liberty State Park here in the Garden State. Even if you visited it as a child, the museum and area around it are under constant development, so there are probably some new things to see on your visit. If you have time after touring the statue, consider a quick hop over to Ellis Island, which is in both New York and New Jersey.
