The 2018 Buick LaCrosse will come standard with an eAssist light electrification system. Though not a true hybrid system, the eAssist system does add an electric motor to the LaCrosse’s 4-cylinder engine to improve performance and boost fuel economy.
The eAssist system increases the LaCrosse’s fuel economy by 19 percent and uses a small lithium-ion battery pack that adds features usually only found in electric vehicles like torque-assisted launch, energy-saving regenerative braking, and stop/start technology.
The new eAssist system is more sophisticated than previous versions, with a nine percent increase in torque, discreet placement, and better driver responsiveness. The new LaCrosse will also be priced lower than previous versions, so not only is it more efficient with better handling, it’s also more affordable!
The 2018 LaCrosse will also feature notable updates like expanded availability of all-wheel drive, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and new exterior paint options.
Duncan Aldred, the vice president of Global Buick and GMC, said that the introduction of eAssist to the LaCrosse will “[make] electrification accessible to our customers as we chart our course to the future of mobility.”
