The 2015 GMC Canyon SLT 4×4 was ranked highest in the Midsize Pickup Challenge, Cars.com’s most comprehensive test of the midsize pickup truck class yet.
It beat competition the likes of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Z71, Nissan Frontier PRO-4X, and Tacoma TRD Pro after six days and 21 tests designed to push the trucks to their limits.
Performance, seating and ergonomics, tech and entertainment, ride quality, visibility, value, off-road capability, you name it—it was all tested, evaluated, and judged. The trucks were track-tested for braking and acceleration performance, both with and without loads, and put through a 200-mile fuel-economy evaluation.
After all that was done, the 2015 GMC Canyon came out as the obvious benchmark. “No matter how you look at this comparison test, the win by the GMC was impressive,” said Mark Williams, Cars.com’s Pickup Truck Editor. “Of the 14 empirical challenges we set up for these midsize trucks, the GMC came in first or second place in 11 of them. In the judges’ scoring, the GMC was chosen as the outright winner by two of our three judges, and our consumer family scored the GMC in first place by a wide margin.”
