Buick announced this week that a special package of safety technologies call the Active Safety Suite will be available on all five 2014 Buick models. The active safety systems will watch the front, sides and rear of the vehicle and work together to prevent accidents.
“Striking design, uncompromised comfort and purposeful safety technology – those are the core attributes of every Buick,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick Marketing. “Our 2014 lineup will tell an active safety story exclusive to the Buick brand and, more importantly, one that helps protect our drivers and passengers better than ever before.”
The safety technologies included in the suite are a Rear Vision Camera, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning both use a single forward-looking camera that reads traffic and lane markers on the road. If the vehicle crosses the line without signaling or detects a slow-moving vehicle in the path, visual warnings and audible tones will alert the driver.
Side Blind Zone Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert use the Rear Vision Camera to “see” the spots that are not visible to the driver and provide warnings to help prevent collisions.
